I want some help in choosing a moped/bike. I know very little of them. My purpose is to ride to and from work using local streets. Also, i want a safe choice for my current ability. I have heard that something less that 50cc doesn't require insurance, etc. I like this idea; however, the lack of speed may soon be an issue.....

Thanks,

if it's street legal it requires insurance. If you crash it into someone else you'll want to have at least basic coverage. Not knowing what your current skill level is I'd say look for somehting used and fairly low power. 150-250cc can still hit the freeway but you would have no problem keeping it under the speed limit. I know a lot of people who start with something like a Honda Rebel 250cc and after a few months moved up to a bigger bike/engine. Plus you can probably buy something and re-sell it in a year for almost the same price as you bought it.

if you go smaller than a 150cc you'll probably want to upgrade in 6 months or less.
